NRD
Desertification Research Centre (NRD)
The Desertification Research Centre (NRD) of the University of Sassari is an interdepartmental Centre focusing on sustainable land management in drylands and the operational secretary of DesertNet International and member of the Global Network of Dryland Research Institutes, which are accredited to the UNCCD. NRD aims to promote interdisciplinary research, networking, dissemination, awareness-raising, stakeholder engagement, capacity building and development cooperation on desertification and sustainable land and water resource management. NRD is also committed to generating new learning spaces for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and development cooperation, acting as an academic scientific organization linked to international scientific networks targeted to promote sustainable land and water resources management.
IPSP
Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection
The Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) aims to develop plant phenomics to advance our understanding of plant biology and ecology, especially protective mechanisms against environmental change and the interaction of plants with other organisms (symbionts, pathogens, pests). The IPSP research activities focus on biodiversity of agro-forestry ecosystems, diagnostics for plant protection, interaction of plants with biological agents, molecular and cellular mechanisms regulating the functions of plants and associated living organisms, abiotic and biotic stresses linked to global climate change, technologies in plant protection.

Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI)
The Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI) of the University of Florence (UNIFI) includes over 125 academic staff, 60 technicians and administration personnel, 40 PhD students, 60 post doc and 50 research fellows. The main research lines of the Department are agriculture, environment, forestry, animal science, food science and technology. Research activity is supported by numerous national and international projects and strong partnerships with public and private institutions and enterprises working in the agriculture, food and forestry sectors.

The Desert Research Center (DRC) is an Egyptian national research centre that aims to explore and study the natural resources in the Egyptian desert and to develop plans to use and protect these resources to achieve sustainable development. DRC’s research activities are concerned with the fields of groundwater, rainwater harvesting, the nature of desert lands, the desert environment, plant and animal production in arid lands, in addition to human and economic studies. The DRC ultimately aims to combat desertification and contribute to the sustainable development of the Egyptian deserts, thus ensuring the wellbeing of present and future generations.

The Centre for Agro-food Economics and Development (CREDA) is a research centre working on social and consumer sciences applied to the agro-food and rural areas. Central goals and themes of the research being conducted at CREDA include: assessment of consumer behaviour towards agricultural-based products; sustainability of food systems from a systemic perspective; sustainable and innovative use of natural resources; livelihood strategies and preferences of rural producers in the face of global change; enhanced understanding of the numerous and complex interactions between society and the local territory.

It is accredited by the United Nation Conventions to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The aims of the Association are to encourage research and policy cooperation to support the sustainable social and economic development of drylands.
